Felon With 'Unsterilized' Dogs Arrested

After ignoring police warnings, a Morton Grove man was charged with three counts of illegally possessing an unspayed or unneutered dog.

MORTON GROVE, IL — A man with three dogs and a past felony conviction was arrested last week after allegedly failing to heed police warnings to sterilize his dogs. Police had received multiple complaints about the trio of dogs, who were kept by a resident of the 7100 block of Church Street. The dogs reportedly would bark, lunge and chase people around the home of Michael Fotopoulos, 48, according to Morton Grove police.

Police said they received a petition from residents alleging that there were "multiple problems" with Fotopoulos' dogs. Fotopoulos has a prior conviction for aggravated battery, which made him ineligible to own or live with unsterilized dogs, according to police.

Police said Fotopolos was warned about the law forbidding anyone convicted of certain types felonies from owning "an unspayed or unneutered dog or puppy," and he was given time to get his dogs sterilized.
