Hit-And-Run Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Niles: Police
Video surveillance showed a car run over a 68-year-old man before an officer witnessed a minivan strike him a second time, police said.

NILES, IL — Police said a pedestrian was struck by two cars before he was pronounced dead Wednesday in Niles.
Kimball Jacks, 68, of Park Ridge, was hit by a car headed north in the 8800 block of Greenwood Avenue, near the intersection with Dempster Street, around 9:30 p.m., according to Niles police.
Video surveillance showed the driver left the scene of the collision, police said. No description of the hit-and-run driver's vehicle was released by police.

Some time later, police said an officer on patrol in the area heard a loud noise and noticed that a Honda minivan had just struck a man's body that was lying in the road.
Video from the officer's squad car showed the body had been lying in the road prior to being run over by the minivan, according to a statement from police.

Police said the driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old Niles man who showed no signs of impairment, remained on scene and was fully cooperative with the investigation.
The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force's Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating the incident, and police asked anyone with information about the case to contact Niles police detectives.
