If You Don't Stop And Look Around...You Could Miss It!

Calling all Morton Grovers, the Morton Grove Farmers' Market wants you to drop by on Saturdays through October 20…and bring a friend or two!

The MGFM (Morton Grove Farmers' Market) is looking for more people to drop by and see its weekly array of fresh produce, baked goods, breakfast and lunch options, flowers and plants, fresh honey, handmade items, community groups, local business displays from the Chamber of Commerce, neighbors sharing stories and walking their dogs and the live entertainment that is available every Saturday from 8am to 1pm in front of the Morton Grove Civic Center (6140 Dempster Street – just look for the big trailer wrapped with the logo and times of the MG Farmers’ Market and the colorful tents in front of the building).

But dropping by is not all that we’re looking for in the next few months of our outdoor market. We need more people to come and purchase goods from our collective of loyal vendors who get up early to offer their customers a wonderful array of food and other items, each and every Saturday. Frankly, they need your business, they need you to support them – and the market needs you to come and shop every week to keep it going strong.

Did you know we’ve been open for over two months already? How many times have you come by so far this season? Where are you buying fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, honey and other products? Time is a precious commodity and it slips through our lives like we’re riding a raft in the rapids on top of a mountain river. But navigating our daily lives often finds us washed up on the shore, wet and tired, after a lot of exercise to keep our heads above water. The vendors and volunteers at the Market get that concept. We have a terrific and dedicated group who devote their Saturdays to offer a wonderful community experience for the village.

With a little planning and effort, you can help keep this almost decade old project in Morton Grove from sinking below the waves. After all, aren’t most locations in town are just a few minutes drive, or a healthy walk, from each other, including the market. Wouldn’t you rather come here instead of a crowded corporate supermarket AND help local, small business owners to boot? We hope so! You can even stop in the Morton Grove Museum that is right behind the market to see a genuine farmhouse from 1888 and experience how people lived, grew food and cooked their meals over a century ago.

Back in October, we held a community meeting at Village Hall that was well attended by local many residents, vendors, press, local officials and market volunteers. They all provided a lot of ideas and direction for going forward with the Market. We took all that advise and made a lot of changes. With help from the Village and Park District, a new look, layout and plan was created. All that’s needed now is your regular patronage (and maybe a few more volunteers to help us operate the market). To see a list of vendors, community groups, entertainers and more (or contact the market to volunteer or for other matters) you can visit: www.mgfarmersmarket.org or the Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/MGFarmersMarket/.

For those who remember the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, he reminded us “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” We hope you don’t miss the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market. Danke Schoen!
