Couple Uses Infected Needle to Rob CVS in Niles

A couple made off with medication from the Milwaukee Avenue store in an incident similar to one reported next day in Naperville.

NILES, IL - A couple used an infected needle to rob the CVS store on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles on Monday, one day before a similar incident was reported in west suburban Naperville.

Police said in a news release a man and woman removed over-the-counter medications from the shelves then concealed them in bags on Monday. When confronted by store employees, the man pulled out a hypodermic needle and allegedly said “You don’t want what I have.”

The man was described as 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-9 and 155 to 175 pounds with dark hair and was wearing sunglasses, a dark jacket and dark pants during the robbery. The woman as having the same height and weighing 135 to 145 pounds with light-colored hair. She was wearing a baseball-style cap, a two-tone jacket and tan pants during the robbery. The pair made off with about $600 worth of medications.

The following day, a similar incident was reported at a CVS in Naperville. There, two people left the store with medications worth hundreds and threatened an employee with an HIV-infected needle when confronted.

Witnesses have not connected the two incidents, but a Niles police sergeant told the Niles Herald-Spectator that the two incidents are similar.
