Lesbian Claims Abuse at Senior Living Facility in Niles

Woman says she was spit on and given a black eye when Glen Saint Andrew Living Community residents learned of her sexual orientation.

NILES, IL - A lesbian resident of Glen Saint Andrew Living Community in Niles says she’s been forced to endure both physical and mental abuse at the community and staff there hasn’t done anything to stop the attacks.

Federal court documents indicate Marsha Wetzel claims in a lawsuit against the senior living facility she was was spit on, attacked, suffered a black eye and endured verbal abuse and slurs, according to a CBS Chicago report.

“I’m embarrassed to repeat what’s been said to me,” said Wetzel. “I’m homosexual. I’m not ashamed of it, never was, never will be. I loved a woman, and she loved me, and we raised a sweet son.”

Glen Saint Andrew is located at 7000 Newark Ave. in Niles. Attorneys for the business have asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

Wetzel moved to the Niles senior living community a year after her partner, Judy Kahn, died of colon cancer.
Some at Glen Saint Andrew learned of this and the abuse began shortly after, according to the claim.

“Our community does not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” Glen Saint Andrew wrote in a statement. “We actively promote dignity for all.”
