A Lot to Celebrate!

It's a celebration of a prestigious 135 year history, as well as an opportunity to support the next 135 years.

It’s a celebration of a prestigious 135 year history, as well as an opportunity to support the next 135 years. Eastcastle Place senior living community on Milwaukee’s Eastside, is planning its 135th Anniversary Celebration, An Evening with John McGivern and John Gurda on September 14th. “A 135th anniversary is a tremendous achievement by any measure,” said Michael Brever, Eastcastle Place’s philanthropy director. “What is equally as important as our longevity is the fact that Eastcastle Place is a non-profit organization. This means that we depend on the generosity of supporters to ensure our successful and secure future. We’ve decided to use this gala celebration as an opportunity to launch our Greatest Needs Fund.”

Eastcastle Place is a Life Plan Community, offering independent living and promoting an active and engaging lifestyle for seniors. The Health Center at Eastcastle Place offers assisted living, memory support, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing services, thus providing complete continuing care for seniors. Eastcastle Place is a 501 (c)3 charity.

Brever said it can sometimes be challenging to draw a connection between philanthropies and retirement communities. “What it means when a community is a non-profit, is that once our operating costs are met, the remaining funds are reinvested into the organization. This fulfills our mission of offering a full continuum of care and fostering active and fulfilling lifestyles while respecting the dignity and independence of our residents.”

As a non-profit, Eastcastle Place also seeks to give back to the greater community at large through training and internship programs. “We share our professional staff’s experience and expertise through internships. We have an artist-in-residence program each year with a UWM art student and offer an internship for students pursuing degrees in social services. Additionally, we partner with Marquette University students studying exercise physiology/physical therapy, providing internships in our aquatics and fitness center,” said Anna Landes, director of sales and marketing.

The Greatest Needs Fund is being established to be utilized at the discretion of senior management and the board of directors, for items determined to be of urgent but perhaps unforeseen needs. “This discretionary fund can be drawn on for items that haven’t yet been budgeted for, but would benefit from being attended to promptly,” said Brever.

Money will be raised for the Greatest Needs Fund at the anniversary gala through sponsorships, raffles, door prizes, and silent auction. Additionally, Eastcastle Place has commissioned the creation of its own wine, which will be made available for purchase. “We are still hoping for more sponsors and donors for this celebratory event,” said Brever.

Eastcastle Place 135th Anniversary Celebration, An Evening with John McGivern and John Gurda will include appetizers, cocktails, dinner, and a live performance by popular historian and radio host John McGivern and John Gurda. The gala will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 5-9 p.m. at The Westin Hotel, 550 N. Van Buren St., Milwaukee. Tickets are $100/person.
