Morton Grove To Buy Forest Preserve Land For $295,000

As part of the purchase, the Village of Morton Grove will pay $29,500 per year from 2021 through 2030 to the Forest Preserve District.

MORTON GROVE,IL - The Village of Morton Grove will spend close to $300,000 to purchase a piece of land from the Cook County Forest Preserve District. The village board unanimously approved the measure at a recent trustee meeting.

The Forest Preserve District presently owns about 3.5 acres located at the northwest corner of Oakton Street and Caldwell Avenue. According to village officials, this particular piece of property has been utilized exclusively by Morton Grove for its water supply and includes a pumping station, an underground water reservoir and an above ground service building.

Prior to approving the purchase, village leaders said the Forest Preserve District had been interested in selling the 3.5 acres to Morton Grove for quite some time. The village recently agreed to accept the title to this parcel for an amount not to exceed $295,000 payable in ten installments beginning on June 1, 2021.

The use of the property will be restricted to its current use or for another public use, village officials said.
