Ruse Burglars Pose As Roofers, Car Buyers: Morton Grove Crimes

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity and of incidents reported to the police. An arrest is not an indication of guilt, and criminal charges can be dropped or reduced. All defendants are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

ARRESTS

SHOPLIFTING
Jerome T. Graham, 31, of the 4200 block of Oakton in Skokie, was arrested for a warrant at Lincolnwood Police Department and was then transferred to Morton Grove Police Department to be interviewed for two previous retail thefts on April 25. He was charged with two separate counts of retail theft from Menards.

DUI

Christopher M. Bernal, 24, of the 6900 block of Keystone in Lincolnwood, was arrested on May 4 after a customer at a gas station on the 5600 block of Dempster reported that he appeared to be unfit to drive. Police spoke to Bernal and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.

SHOPLIFTING

Polly Bruno, 64, of the 3000 block of Central in Glenview, was arrested May 5 and charged with retail theft after she allegedly concealed an item and exited a store in the 7200 block of Dempster without paying for it.

REVOKED LICENSE

Bianca Lane, 23, of the 700 block of Logan in Elgin, was stopped for a traffic violation around Dempster and Lehigh on May 12, determined to have a revoked license and arrested.

DUI

Alberto I. Sanchez, 21, of the 4700 block of Karlov in Chicago, was stopped for a traffic violation around Dempster and Lehigh on May 13 and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Hong K. Ko, 69, of the 5500 block of Lincoln in Morton Grove was issued two Morton Grove ordinance citations for disorderly conduct on two separate occasions due to the fact that he was pounding and screaming at the door to a neighboring resident in his building .

SHOPLIFTING

Grigory Popov, 67, of the 10000 block of Holly in Des Plaines, was issued a Morton Grove ordinance citation for committing a retail theft of soap and a candy bar May 11 at TJMAXX on the 7200 block of Dempster.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 26-year-old woman, of the 10000 block of Linda in Des Plaines was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license on May 4 after police pulled her over around Golf and Overlook.

PARAPHERNALIA

A 29-year-old man, of the 9300 block of Austin in Morton Grove, was stopped for a traffic violation May 8 around Beckwith and Lehigh when police found he was in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. He was issued two local citations and released.

SUSPENDED LICENSE

A 20-year-old man of the 1300 block of Hartrey in Evanston, was pulled over on May 15 on the 8500 block of Mango and arrested for driving with a suspended license and cited for possession of under 10 grams of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

CANNABIS

A 21-year old man from the 7000 block of Greenleaf in Niles, was stopped for a traffic violation around Beckwith and Newcastle on May 11 and was issued Morton Grove citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

PARAPHERNALIA

A 32-year-old man, of the 2800 block of Central in Glenview, was sitting in his car at a stoplight on May 12, when an officer sitting in an adjacent squad car saw him lighting a cannabis pipe. The officer initiated a traffic stop at Demster and Austin and issued the suspect a Morton Grove citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

INCIDENTS

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

On May 6, a caller reported someone came to a house on the 9500 block Harlem and asked about a car the victim had for sale. The offender followed the victim into his house and later they went to the outside backyard. While the victim and the offender were outside the complainant stated she went to the victim’s bedroom and found another offender in there. Both offenders fled the scene in a beige unknown truck.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

A caller reported a pair of sunglasses and a gas card was missing from a parked vehicle on the 9100 block of Parkside on May 8.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 8, a caller on the 8400 block of Callie reported that two store credit cards had been opened in his name.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

On May 9, a caller on the 8200 block of Central reported that the catalytic converter was stolen off his vehicle.

THEFT FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

On May 9, a caller on the 8300 block of Parkside said someone had removed the catalytic converter from her vehicle.

IDENTITY THEFT

On May 9, a caller on the 8800 block of Meade said Chase Bank notified her that a fraudulent check had been cashed from her checking account.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

On May 10, a man came to the door in the 9400 block of Ozark and said he was with the city and informed the resident the roof was damaged. The caller said she allowed the man into her home. He then took her to the basement and went back upstairs, and when she came back upstairs the male was gone. The caller told police the man was driving a beige colored pick-up truck and noticed her wedding ring missing after he left.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

On May 11, a caller on the 5500 block of Lincoln said both of her vehicles were keyed.

FRAUD

On May 12, a caller on the 5700 block of Main reported several fraudulent charges had been made on his debit card.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

On May 12, a caller stated his laptop and sunglasses had been taken from his vehicle overnight on the 9200 block of Oriole.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

On May 12, a caller stated a Garmin GPS was missing from a vehicle on the 9200 block of Oriole.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

On May 12, a caller on the 7500 block of Foster stated there was an unauthorized charge on her store account.
