Morton Grove Park District Presents “Yoga for Absolute Beginners”

Make a new year's resolution

We all do it. Make a new year’s resolution – like taking a yoga class - then conveniently drop it within a few weeks because we’re just too busy. Heck, maybe you even signed up for a class hoping to finally become a real yogi, only to freak out at the idea of committing to a weekly routine.

No worries, the Morton Grove Park District understands your resolution anxiety. That’s why they’ve made it easy to learn the yoga basics in one fool-proof workshop, “Yoga for Absolute Beginners” on Saturday January 27 at 3pm at the Prairie View Community Center at 6834 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, IL. Eliminating the self-doubts of not knowing your way around a yoga mat, the workshop is specifically structured for the novice.

“Many newcomers don’t want to join a yoga program when they’ve never tried it before,” commented Sue Braubach, the Park District’s Recreation Supervisor. “That’s why for the folks who want a complete, non-threatening, and really friendly introduction to yoga, we’re excited to offer this ‘Absolute Beginners’ workshop.”

The workshop promises to guide participants step-by-step through all the main postures. Attendees will also learn the most popular breathing practices and relaxation techniques.

“Many yoga classes don’t offer new students the time or opportunity to learn poses or the breathing practices”, notes yoga workshop teacher Nancy Gerstein. “We’re going start at the beginning so if the student wants to continue the practice by attending a class or practice on their own, they’ll be ready.
