Morton Grove's Summer Town Square at the Farmers' Market

MGFM's 10th Season Starts On June 8 and runs through October 19

The Morton Grove Farmers’ Market (MGFM) is preparing for the 2019 Season (it’s 10th) with a mix of veteran and new volunteer committee members who are bringing back favorite vendors and attracting new ones – along with seeking the help of additional market volunteers to help out at the market on Saturdays and on various committees at 6140 Dempster Street, Morton Grove.

Starting June 8, the regular weekly outdoor market will be in this same location and be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will operate every Saturday through October 18 (except for July 6 when it will be closed to accommodate the July 4th holiday carnival, Morton Grove Days).

When this market began, people attended to savor produce at the peak of freshness, purchase unique, hand made items, meet and discuss life with neighbors, find out how their food was grown (and by whom) along with learning new recipes, sampling various prepared foods, enjoying live entertainment and actively engaging in that thing often find hard to define as “community.” The volunteers operating the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market this year are inviting one and all to again enjoy all this and more during the upcoming season.

To meet all these opportunities, the MGFM is taking a fresh approach for 2019 and is reaching out to all “Morton Grover’s”, their families, neighbors, friends and co-workers asking everyone to take a look at what’s planned. How we shop, eat and interact with our neighbors is different from even from just a few years ago due to advances in technology and how people prepare their meals is important to consider, and the MGFM hopes all families will blend the market into their family’s food shopping and meal preparation.

Rich Block, a past-president and current Board Member of the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce stated “ We heard you Morton Grove, and the market will go on!” He went on to thank everyone who has offered their help, expertise and suggestions, including the Village of Morton Grove and the Morton Grove Park District for their continuing support and guidance along with returning MGFM Committee Members Brad Moldofsky, Lorri Fishman and Susan Werth. The Advisory Committee welcomes Alyse Burman (Education Foundation-Niles Township), Ralph Czerwinski (Village of Morton Grove) and Jeff Wait (MG Park District) to offer guidance and support.

The MGFM shared the following reasons to consider when deciding where to buy food and why to visit the Farmers’ Market this season. (1) Experience Genuine Taste & Flavors of Food. (2) Engage in Social Networking With Your Community…the old fashioned way, face to face. (3) Support local family farmers, businesses and artists. (4) Experience New & Healthy Ways to Prepare Meals. (5) Go Green and Eat Green by getting produce near your home. (6) Enjoy Nourishing Meals for you and your family.
