Niles Man Caught Burglarizing Garages, Cars In Morton Grove: Police

An alert homeowner tipped off cops to an alleged burglar near Harlem and Shermer early Thursday.

MORTON GROVE, IL — A Niles man has been charged with multiple felonies after he was confronted by homeowner, fled to a school and was arrested in Morton Grove Thursday. Police said at 2:25 a.m. they received a call from a homeowner around the 9200 block of Harlem Avenue who informed them he had heard a noise by his garage and saw a man acting suspiciously and going into a garage. The resident noticed his garage door was open, but the man ran away, according to Morton Grove Police Cmdr. Paul Yaras.

Responding officers arrived on the scene and found a man hiding behind Hynes School, 9000 Belleforte Ave., with numerous items he could not account for, including wallets, keys, ID's change, phone charges and various other things that people tend to leave in their cars overnight, Yaras said. Police also found several vehicles that had been rummaged through and located and identified the owners of the property in the man's possession.

Christopher Stachon-Groblowy, 23, of Niles was arrested and charged with felony theft (because of prior conviction for burglary), burglary from vehicle, criminal trespass to vehicle, criminal trespass to property and possession of controlled substance (Xanax), according to police.
