Niles and Morton Grove Could Benefit From Lincolnwood Water Deal
In water deals, villages can reap savings from each additional buyer of Evanston water.

LINCOLNWOOD, IL — Lincolnwood could join Niles and Morton Grove in buying Evanston's water, according to a report in the Journal & Topics. Morton Grove and Niles signed agreements last month to finalize their deals to buy water from Evanston and stop buying water from Chicago. Evanston will officially adopt the plan on a second reading at a meeting later this month.
Preliminary talks are already underway with Lincolnwood, according to Evanston Public Works Director Dave Stoneback , and Niles Village Manager Steve Vinezeano said the new Niles-Morton Grove water-buying group would make up roughly 13% of all water sold by Evanston, the Journal reported.
The more water Evanston sells to other buyers, the cheaper the overall cost will become for Niles and Morton Grove. Both towns are studying where the most effective route for a future pipeline would be.
