Niles Public Library District's 18th Annual Poetry Contest

Submit your own poetry for a chance to win a prize!

Niles Public Library District is hosting their 18th Annual Poetry Contest for teens and adults. Deadline for submission is Monday, April 25, 2016. First ($75 gift card), Second ($50 gift card) and Third ($25 gift card) place prizes will be awarded for both ages groups. The contest is open to residents in the Library District or attend local school (Teens). In addition to the Poetry Contest, visitors of the Library are invited to participate in poetry-themed activities or attend a program or event.

· Poetry Scavenger Hunt of Kids

April 1-30: Find 20 poems in KidSpace and win a prize. The hard hunt begins April 15.

· The Creative Impulse: Gathering the Sparks, Fanning the Flames
Wed., April 13, 1-2:30pm: A poetry based writing workshop for writers of all levels and genres.

· Poem in Your Pocket Day

Thurs., April 21: Pick up a poem at the Library and share it with others.

· Art After Hours: “My Name is Will” Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Songs

Fri., April 29, 7-8pm: A dramatic adaption of Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Songs performed by The Shakespeare Project of Chicago.

· Poetry Lounge

Fri., May 13, 5-6:30pm: An exclusive reading of the finalists’ work from the Teen Poetry Contest.

The Niles Public Library District is located at 6960 W. Oakton St. at the northeast corner of the Oakton and Waukegan intersection. Library hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 am – 9 pm, Friday, 9 am – 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday, 1 – 5 pm.
