No One Cared About American Girls.

Since reading about the 300 Nigerian girls abducted from school in Nigeria by Boko Haram Terrorists who threaten to sell them as prostitutes I have tried to ascertain the difference between this and the hi-jacking of hundreds of school age girls who were turned into street walking prostitutes in a Chicago neighborhood known as Cabrini Green the 1960's and 70's by moron pimps.
The first difference is "outrage", in the case of the Nigerian girls there has been an out pouring of anger, resentment and action in the United States, from the President down to various citizen groups and of course Hollywood. The President has committed some military and law enforcement to the problem.
In the case of the Chicago girls forced into a life of prostitution there was no political outrage or action, not even Hollywood. As I recall the only anger expressed was directed at the police when they tried to enforce the law they were accused of Racism.
Perhaps the explanation regarding the different approaches to these similar problems is culture. The Chicago girls were products of a crime ridden neighborhood and in most cases a dysfunctional single parent family. These young girls were looked upon as family bread winners, i.e., the icing on the cake, the cake being welfare and subsidies, the icing being tax free cash for other things.
They lived in a world of violence and abuse by pimps, clientele, family and wide spread sexually transmitted disease to which society turned a blind eye.
From what I can see the Nigerian girls are products of close, complete family, education and a relatively law abiding society. Hopefully efforts to rescue them will be successful.
