Playbook Sports Bar Opening

It has 30 flat-screen TVs, including two on the outdoor deck, and offers 30 beers.

With a varied menu, lots of flat-screen TVs  and a modern interior that emphasizes wood, stone and other natural materials, the owners of Playbook Sports Bar hope sports buffs in the area will become its fans.

The sports bar at 6913 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, which has a 100-inch HD television as well as about 30 others, is having a ribbon cutting today  and a grand opening Tuesday, June 21.

"We're hoping to attract sports enthusiasts. We're aiming for Niles locals but also trying to get a geographic range of  people from the city, since we're so close to Edison Park, and other suburbs," said Dorian Ozymko, the manager.

Playbook offers a full menu, with appetizer, sandwich, entree and dessert items. Ten beers are on tap, with 20 available in bottles.

The sports bar has installed a new product called a table tapper, made by an Irish company, into one of its tables, a 10-seater. The tapper lets patrons at that table pour their own beers from a tap, and has a computerized system that lets each patron have a pint. A refrigeration unit sits below the table to keep the beer cold.

"It's something new and different that other bars don't have," said Anna Ozymko, Dorian's wife.

Peter and Ala Ozymko of Glenview, the owners, decided to open a sports bar after 12 years in the restaurant industry, as owners of Accent Cafe, a restaurant, nightclub and banquet hall in Mount Prospect. Dorian, 32, is their son.

"We wanted to open something different," said Ala Ozymko.

Both Peter and Dorian Ozymko say they're sports fans, with the Bulls at the top of their favorites. Peter  also likes auto racing, soccer and baseball.

Playbook will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 11:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It will serve food during all open hours.
