Porch Pirate Search Warrant Turns Up Accused Meth Dealer: Blotter

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, criminal charges — representing merely accusations by the state — are often dropped or reduced and all persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
THEFT
Someone stole a gym bag from a fitness center in the 6800 block of Dempster Street on Feb. 19, police were told.

COM ED SCAM
A resident of the 8900 block of Oketo Avenue reported on Feb. 22 that someone called them purporting to be an employee of ComEd and claiming the company was owed $200 on a past due bill. The caller threatened to shut off the power if he did not receive immediate payment. However, the apparent scammer did say he would accept a smaller payment of just $10.15, so the resident provided credit card information over the phone. The resident later cancelled the card and there was no reported loss.
HOME BURGLARY
A contractor working on a property in the 9100 block of Lehigh Avenue reported on Feb. 23 that they had left tools overnight at a property on which they were working. Someone smashed open a glass panel to the property and opened the front doors before stealing about $2,500 worth of tools.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 8900 block of National Avenue reported on Feb. 24 that someone had shot a BB gun at their bedroom window, breaking the exterior pane.
UNLAWFUL USE OF CREDIT CARD
A resident in the 5700 block of Dempster Street reported on Feb. 25 that the bank had contacted them to say someone had tried to withdraw $300 from their account. The resident said the debit card in question was still in their possession and there was no loss because the account was already empty.
ARRESTS
Brenda A. Bussey, 20, of the 1900 block of Wellington Avenue, Chicago, was arrested Feb. 22 in the 8300 block of Callie Avenue and charged with burglary and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. She's accused of breaking into condos and stealing various packages and mail from residents. After cops got a search warrant for her house, in the North Center neighborhood, they added the drug charge.
Arthur R. Harmon, 57, of the 2700 block of Roosevelt Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at Feb. 23 at the Menards in the 6300 block of Oakton Street. He allegedly entered the store, took a drill out of its packaging and put it in his waist area before walking out of the store without paying.
