St. John Brebeuf parishioners help raise money to fight hunger

St. John Brebeuf Parish has participated in the Niles-Park Ridge CROP Walk for 11 consecutive years.

Parishioners from St. John Brebeuf Church in Niles joined hundreds of walkers representing dozens of churches and other organizations at the annual Niles/Park Ridge CROP Hunger Walk. CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Groups gathered at First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge Sunday, Oct. 20, for this 50th anniversary of the CROP Hunger Walk which started in 1969.

The event raised money for local food pantries including the Maine Township Emergency Food Pantry. The event also benefited the Church World Service which feeds people across the globe.

"St. John Brebeuf Parish has participated in the Niles-Park Ridge CROP Walk for 11 consecutive years. Several of our eighth-grade students preparing for Confirmation joined us in this year's efforts," said Deacon Andy Beierwaltes of St. John Brebeuf.
