A Temporary Memorial In Remembrance of Covid 19 Losses

A Temporary Memorial for Morton Grove Coronavirus Losses will be placed outside St. Luke's in Morton Grove from June 29 to July 13

The Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce announces that St. Luke's Christian Community Church, Morton Grove are placing a temporary memorial for all our loved ones who have died from COVID-19 from Monday, June 29 to Monday, July 13 in the north parking lot of St. Luke's Church, 9233 Shermer Rd. Morton Grove. This is a self-directed memorial, for personal remembrance.

This outdoor memorial is not only for the more than 120,000 individuals who have already died in the past 4 months, but also for the continuing deaths. The losses, the stresses, the griefs – all the mourning associated with the coronavirus.

As a follow-up after the 4-part video series “We Gather Together,” a local video production about how Morton Grove and surrounding communities are dealing with COVID-19, the Chamber of Commerce and Rev. Elizabeth Jones of St. Luke’s Church wish to provide an actual place and space for people to gather together and grieve. (The video series is available on the “St. Luke’s Community Christian Church, Morton Grove” Facebook page and expected to be shared at a later date on YouTube and other local media outlets.)

Rev. Jones says: “The shelter-in-place period of time was highlighted by social isolation and separation between family, friends and neighbors. Now that we are gradually returning to social gatherings and activities, this temporary memorial is a way for many to remember. I encourage friends to come, to pray, and mourn what we all have lost in these past months.

“Join us to remember and to gather together outside, as a community. We grieve together, we hope together. As a community, we are resilient - together. And, we hope for better days ahead.”
