The Correct Choice!

An interesting thing happened yesterday. A representative from an all natural, eco-friendly professional salon products company stopped by the salon to check us out. As a couple of longtime hairdressers who strive to be as green as possible, we had much in common and a lot to talk about. Of course she gently tried to convert me to her product line. It’s a line I’m quite familiar with and, frankly, like very much. Admittedly, she had me a bit curious and I wondered if perhaps it might have been a wiser decision to have partnered with her well-known company rather than becoming an Organic Salon Systems Concept Salon. While I absolutely love the products we currently use, and working with Organic Salon Systems is a pleasure, I wondered if it might be better to have the well-known company’s name flashing in Upstairs Hair Affair’s second floor window.

Upstairs Hair Affair is a new salon on the second floor of a professional building, not particularly conducive to much walk-in traffic, although everyone should feel comfortable stopping by for a visit and cup of coffee! As these thoughts and questions were running through my mind, I finally asked the money question: Does your line of hair color have ammonia?  “Um, why yes it does….” Boom! That one response told me all I needed to know. It reconfirmed my faith in my choice to use Organic Color Systems exclusively. Here we never use chemicals. Not in our hair color, not in our keratin smoothing treatments, not in our perm solution, not even in our cleaning products!

Most hair color utilizes ammonia to open the top layer of hair so the color penetrates. This is why hair treated with chemicals looks dry and has split ends. Once ammonia opens the cuticle (top layer), it never closes completely again. Thus most hair products contain plastics to coat your hair to give the appearance that it’s healthy. Instead you’re left with flat hair weighed down by the coating that flakes off leading you to believe you have a dry, flaky scalp rather than layers of gunk coating your hair.

Our ammonia-free hair color is amazing! Thank you Organic Color Systems for offering it. It never damages your hair. Rather than using chemicals to blast open the top layer, it uses organic oils to soften it, gently opening your hair to allow the color to penetrate. We take steps to close it back up after coloring, maintaining the hair’s health and integrity. The hair is left with gorgeous vibrant color that covers gray perfectly. Often the color doesn’t fade, but when it does it remains on tone, so it continues looking beautiful. No more of that brassy orange that other color lines fade into. After using our ammonia-free color exclusively for several root retouches you will realize how much healthier and shinier your hair is. It will move because it won’t be weighed down with plastics and other coatings. It will reflect light and practically sparkle under the sun.

Here I am back to being ecstatic with the decision to become an Organic Salon Systems Concept Salon. If you’re on the fence about leaving your long-trusted hairdresser, please stop in and check us out. No pressure. No hard sell. Just a relaxing visit to get to know us.
