Mavrakis is focused on a development in Berwyn right now, which has deadlines coming up, Horne said, and consequently is not moving forward yet on the Morton Grove property.
"He's intent on doing something and he wants it to be accepted by the community, so that's positive," Horne said.
"He reassured us he wants something the community can be proud of and not looked down upon," Horne added.
Horne and Peter Falcone, assistant village administrator, noted Mavrakis is already invested in the welfare of Morton Grove and its business community, because he owns Giordano's a few blocks farther east on Dempster.
The parcel Mavrakis plans to develop sits on Dempster Street between Narragansett and Lehigh, just east of the railroad tracks.
