What "Open For Business" Means Today!

More than ever, the local business community needs your help to keep them open and offering the goods and services you want.

We are all finding out that the term "Open for Business" has a much different meaning for many of us then it did earlier this year!

With so many of our local business community struggling to stay afloat, there are a number of sources and ideas that you can use to find out what is open and how you can support them right now. Here's a "TOP TEN LIST" of some ways that YOU can help keep your family, friends and neighbors who are in business (or relying on them) open during these unusual times...

  1. Order Take Out (Delivery or Pick Up) for Meals. Be sure to tip VERY generously when you do whether having it brought to your door or picking up curbside or inside. When possible, order directly from the restaurant as third party delivery services can be expensive for them
  2. Buy gift cards or certificates from your favorite places (like restaurants, hair salons, pest control, dog groomers and more). Don't use them now, save them for a later date. Better yet, buy these and send as a gift to someone who may need a boost right now or a charity
  3. Share local restaurant menus and businesses list of goods and services available (on your social media, especially their "special offers"). Be sure to provide good reviews for them too
  4. Reach out to a favorite local business or two and thank them; for staying open to provide food or other essential goods and services and to stay safe and stay healthy while you stay home
  5. If possible can you continue to pay for services; like landscapers, cleaning people, hairstylists and others right now as they need your support to keep going too
  6. Find out what companies are offering what they do online; or through Zoom. Maybe you could take an yoga class, learn how to cook or something else, you have the time
  7. Keep up your memberships and subscriptions; even if they are suspended right now. If you already paid for something that was cancelled, ask for a credit, not a refund (or forget the debt)
  8. Tip VERY generously right now! People working jobs that need tips, really need them. Even if you are picking it up curbside, leave some extra money...or charge it on your credit card
  9. Remember those in need. A lot of charities are struggling to keep up. You can donate money or volunteer (and consider dropping off food to the Niles and Maine Township Food Pantries)
  10. Be patient and considerate. A lot of people are stressed, working hard and worried about family, friends and their futures. So if something you order isn't just perfect right now, as the song from Disney's "Frozen" shared with all..."Let It Go!"
