3 Northbrook Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Three Northbrook students are among the 1,200 high school seniors awarded a college-sponsored National Merit scholarship, the organization announced Monday. The local recipients are:

  • James H. Noyes, of Northbrook, who will be studying broadcast journalism in college, earned a National Merit Boston University Scholarship. Noyes is a graduate of Glenbrook South.
  • Joanna D. Gusis, of Northbrook, who will be studying law, earned a National Merit Michigan State University Scholarship. Gusis is a graduate of Glenbrook North.
  • Megan Zhu Wang, of Northbrook, who will be studying healthcare, earned a National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship. Wang is a graduate of Glenbrook North.
According to the organization, these scholarships are financed by U.S. colleges and universities. The awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution.

This is the last group of winners of the 2022 National Merit Scholars. The winners announced on Monday are part of a group of more than 7,200 high school seniors who were awarded National Merit scholarships.

Winners are picked based on results from the preliminary SAT, roles in school and extracurricular activities, a recommendation from a school official and a student essay.
