For nearly 15 years, Village Treasure House (VTH) has been a steadfast partner of Hunger Resource Network (HRN), helping provide protein to the tables of families in need across Chicagoland.

HRN recognized that commitment by presenting VTH the 2026 Corporate Hunger Hero of the Year Award at its recent annual fund-raising luncheon.

Since 2012, VTH has contributed nearly $200,000 to HRN — the equivalent of almost 400,000 pounds of frozen chicken — along with special grants supporting area students facing food insecurity.

A Mission Powered by Volunteers

VTH's impact extends well beyond hunger relief. Since its founding in 1998, the Northbrook-based nonprofit consignment shop has provided grant funding to more than 15 Chicagoland organizations. With its upcoming June grant cycle, VTH expects to reach $4.5 million in lifetime giving — driven largely by a volunteer workforce of nearly one hundred.

"We can do that largely because nearly all of our staff are volunteers," said Kathryn Hall, Lead Shop Manager and Chair of the VTH Philanthropy Committee.

Twice a year, VTH awards grants through its Philanthropy Committee, plus one or two Special Grants voted on by volunteers. Partner organizations propose how they would use unexpected funds, and the team selects the projects that resonate most.

HRN's Student Food Pack Program for Northbrook students has won a special grant five times — including four consecutive years — more than any other proposal in VTH's history.

A Valued Partnership

"Since 2012, Village Treasure House has faithfully supported HRN through grants funding frozen chicken for local food pantries and our Student Food Pack Program," said Kerry Smith, HRN Executive Director. "Their continued commitment has made a meaningful difference in so many lives. We are truly grateful."

Meghan Rosenfeld: 2026 HRN Volunteer of the Year

Also honored at the luncheon was Meghan Rosenfeld, recognized for three years of exceptional service to HRN's mission — from grant research and securing in-kind donations to training volunteers and managing day-to-day operations. "Meghan brings dedication, compassion, and heart to everything she does," Smith said.

Thank You to Luncheon Sponsors

HRN extends special thanks to Premier Sponsor Sunset Foods and Gold Sponsor Endeavor Health and Silver Sponsors: First Bank Chicago, Fields Auto Group and to all silent auction participants who helped HRN reach its fund-raising goal.
