$6.3K Gift Card Scam, Vehicle Burglaries: Northbrook Police Blotter

Reports also included felony retail theft, cocaine possession, criminal damage to vehicles and credit card fraud.

The incidents and arrests below were reported by the Northbrook Police Department from May 27 through June 4, 2026. (NorthShore Updates)

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

Driving Without A Valid License

Tammy T. Irons, of North Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid license and having a defective headlight at 8:51 p.m. May 27, near Pfingsten Road and Maria Avenue. Police said an officer stopped a 2015 red Toyota Rav4 with a defective headlight and spoke with Irons, who did not have a valid driver’s license. She was assigned a July 2 court date.

Martin Sanchez-Viliebre, of Wheeling, was charged with driving on a suspended license at 7:50 p.m. June 1, in the 2400 block of Dundee Road. Police said an officer stopped a white Chevrolet Suburban with suspended license plates and learned Sanchez-Viliebre had a suspended driver’s license and an active warrant out of McHenry County for failing to appear in court on a traffic offense. He was assigned a July 2 court date and was turned over to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to await transfer to McHenry County.

Anthony M. Carvajal, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving with suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle at 12:06 a.m. May 30, near Willow and Sunset Ridge roads. Police said an officer stopped a 2010 silver Ford Fusion with suspended license plates and learned Carvajal had a suspended driver’s license. He was assigned a June 29 court date.

Drug Possession

Jessica Garcia, of Chicago, was charged with improper lane usage and possession of a controlled substance at 2:43 a.m. May 31, near Dundee and Midway roads. Police said an officer stopped a 2010 black Nissan Pathfinder that was weaving from lane to lane. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a white powdery substance that contained cocaine, according to police. Garcia was assigned a June 3 court date.

Retail Theft

Tony D. Danyal, of Evanston, was charged with felony retail theft at 1:28 p.m. June 4, in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. Police said loss prevention staff at a retail store saw Danyal steal a handbag, 13 watches and Puma shoes worth $454.55. Loss prevention tried to stop him, but he ran from the store. Officers later caught him with the items, according to police. Danyal was assigned a June 8 court date.

INCIDENTS

Burglary To Motor Vehicle

Two people reported June 4 that they had left vehicles unlocked in their driveways overnight. During one burglary, a wallet containing credit cards was stolen. At another location, a stroller, boxes of diapers and clothing were stolen. Similar incidents occurred at other locations, but the offender was unable to get inside the vehicles. The incidents were recorded on surveillance cameras, according to police.

Attempted Burglary To Vehicle

A person in the 500 block of Huehl Road reported at 6:07 p.m. June 4, that a man tried to open a 2025 blue Nissan parked in the driveway. The person heard the vehicle beeping, walked outside and saw the man with a key fob in his hand. The man fled in a white SUV.

Phone Scam

A person in the 600 block of Charlemagne Drive reported at 10:31 p.m. June 1, that someone texted about an art project they wanted to pay the person for. After several texts, the person noticed money had been taken from the account. The person provided their username and password after being told the information was needed to fix the issue. The person later realized it was a scam, and hundreds of dollars were missing from the account.

Identity Theft

A person in the 2800 block of Farmington Road reported at 5:15 p.m. May 28, that someone used the person’s personal information to illegally open a bank account. No money was reported stolen.

Credit Card Fraud

A person in the 4100 block of Ridgeland Lane reported at 12:54 p.m. June 1, that someone accessed two credit cards. One card had an illegal charge for a U-Haul rental, and another had an unknown charge that was declined by the credit card company.

Theft

A person in the 2400 block of The Strand reported at 4:19 p.m. June 1, that someone stole a coin purse from inside the person’s residence. The coin purse contained a Movado watch, $300, checks and credit cards. The person did not know when the theft occurred but said several repair workers had been inside the residence over the previous few weeks.

Criminal Damage To Vehicles

A person in the 2300 block of Crabtree Lane reported at 7:31 a.m. May 30, that family vehicles were damaged while parked overnight in the driveway. The damage included slashed tires, scratches and a smashed side mirror.

Criminal Defacement

A person in the 200 block of Voltz Road reported at 4:09 p.m. May 28, that someone sprayed black paint in the form of letters on yellow fencing along the road. Public works staff was notified and planned to try to remove the paint.
