NORTHBROOK, IL — The Northbrook Park District and Village of Northbrook will host the fourth annual Grapes on the Green from 4 to 8 p.m. June 20 at Village Green Park.

Northbrook Park District Board President Mike Goodman said the event was created in response to community interest in adults-only programming.

“We created this event in response to the community's desire for adults-only events, and it's been exciting to see people respond with such enthusiasm year after year,” Goodman said in a statement. “Whether you're a wine connoisseur or simply enjoy spending time in Village Green Park, Grapes on the Green provides a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for all!"

Village President Kathryn Ciesla said the event also ties into Northbrook’s 125th anniversary celebration.

“Grapes on the Green is a wonderful example of what makes Northbrook special,” Ciesla said. “As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, this event brings people together in the heart of our community to enjoy great wine, live entertainment, local art, and the beautiful setting of Village Green Park.”

Attendees can take part in mural painting and games, including bags and plastic axe throwing. Guitarist and vocalist Peter Warren will perform a mix of instrumentals, bossa nova, jazz and contemporary songs.

This year’s event includes a new snack box for ticket holders containing chocolate, crackers, dried fruit and nuts.

Chicago Wine, a family-owned business with a retail store in Glenview, will showcase nine varieties of wine. The selections include wines from California, Italy, Provence, Spain, New Zealand and Sonoma Coast.

“We are looking forward to coming back for our fourth year for Grapes on the Green,” said Mike Widmaier, who co-owns Chicago Wine with his wife, Paula. “It’s great to get the community involved and bring people together. We absolutely love that aspect.”

Widmaier said the wine selection includes some of Chicago Wine’s best-sellers and is designed to offer a range of choices.

“I try to offer a large selection of wines around the world so that there will be something for everyone, and everyone will have a chance to enjoy something they like,” Widmaier said. “If you really love something, you can go back and taste it a second or third time.”

Tasting tickets are $49 and include 12 one-ounce wine samples and a tote bag with a signature Grapes on the Green wine glass and snack box. Participants will also have a chance to win prizes.

This year’s glass includes a special logo celebrating Northbrook’s 125th anniversary.

Non-tasting tickets are $30 and include the tote bag with snack box and event activities.

The event is for adults 21 and older only. Infants, children and dogs are not allowed, and no outside beverages are permitted. Attendees may bring their own blankets, chairs and picnic dinners.
