NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
Incidents
Theft
A person reported at 8:26 a.m. June 12, that someone accessed his locked gym locker at a fitness facility in the 2700 block of Techny Road and stole his credit card. The SIM card was also taken from his phone. The victim later noticed fraudulent activity of $505.95 at a Northbrook store.
A resident of the 800 block of Midway Road reported at 5:21 p.m. June 12, that after being away from home for about a month, he returned and found someone had accessed the house and stolen two Remington western-style bronze statues worth $16,000.
A person reported at 12:51 p.m. June 14, that she left an 18-karat yellow gold Cartier watch on a bench in a golf club women’s locker room in the 3500 block of Dundee Road. When she returned, the watch had been stolen. The watch was worth $40,000.
A person reported at 4:09 a.m. June 15, that someone stole his wallet from a fitness center in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. The wallet contained credit cards, checks, $400 and IDs.
A resident of the 3500 block of Prestwick Lane reported at 9:51 a.m. June 15, that after being away from home for an extended period, she returned and found several pieces of jewelry and a jewelry box had been stolen. The total loss was $18,169.
A person reported at 4:26 p.m. June 16, that two prescription bottles were stolen from a breakroom at a workplace in the 630 block of Dundee Road. The total value was $608.
A person reported at 9:34 p.m. June 16, that he placed his golf bag near the front door of a restaurant in the 1300 block of Shermer Road before going inside to buy drinks. When he was leaving, he noticed a $500 DAB putter had been stolen.
A resident of the 3400 block of Whirlaway Drive reported at 8:26 p.m. June 17, that someone had smashed a first-floor window and entered the home while she was away. The suspects ransacked the house and stole purses, sunglasses, jewelry and about $5,000.
Burglary To Vehicle
A resident of the 2700 block of The Mews reported at 4:41 p.m. June 13, that she parked her vehicle in front of her residence overnight. When she returned the next morning, someone had stolen a piece of luggage from inside. The luggage contained books, a Kindle and medication. It was not known whether the vehicle had been locked.
Email Scam
A resident of the 3000 block of Pheasant Creek Drive reported at 12:32 p.m. June 17, that she had been in contact with someone she believed was a music celebrity from California. The resident was told she would receive gifts in a package, then received an email claiming the package had been intercepted by the Chicago Police Department and that she needed to provide Apple gift cards to receive it. The resident sent $1,000 in gift cards before realizing it was a scam.
Retail Theft
Loss prevention staff at a clothing store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 1:33 p.m. June 17, that surveillance video showed a male subject switch Hoka gym shoes for sale with his old shoes before leaving without paying. The shoes were worth $119.97.
Management staff at a pet store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 2:34 p.m. June 18, that two subjects stole various pet food totaling $276.80 and fled in a gray sedan.
Loss prevention staff at a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 7:24 p.m. June 18, that a male took a pair of Santoni loafers and switched them with his shoes before leaving without paying. The stolen loafers were worth $479.97.
Criminal Defacement
A person reported at 7:01 a.m. June 12, that an unknown person scratched letters into the side of a vending machine at the Northbrook train station in the 1400 block of Shermer Road, damaging the paint.
Arrests
DUI
Michael J. Galassini, of Northbrook, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. June 15, near Dundee and Landwehr roads and charged with speeding, improper lane usage and DUI. An officer saw a silver Toyota Camry driving at a high speed and weaving in and out of its lane, measured the vehicle traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone and stopped the vehicle. Galassini appeared intoxicated and refused to perform sobriety tests, according to police. He was assigned a July 31 court date.
Suspended Driver’s License
Pedro Hernandez Perez, of Chicago, was arrested at 9:23 p.m. June 12, near Dundee Road and Ash Lane and charged with defective registration light and driving while license suspended. An officer stopped a gray Honda CR-V with a defective license plate light and learned Hernandez Perez had a suspended driver’s license. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
Anthony R. Aquino, of Chicago, was arrested at 9:39 p.m. June 16, near Dundee Road and Anthony Trail and charged with suspended registration, expired registration and driving while license suspended. An officer stopped a gray Tesla with suspended and expired license plates and learned Aquino had a suspended driver’s license. He was assigned a July 13 court date.
Edgar Dominguez, of Chicago, was arrested at 10:38 p.m. June 16, near Willow and Waukegan roads and charged with expired registration and driving while license suspended. An officer stopped a gold Toyota Highlander with expired license plates and learned Dominguez had a suspended driver’s license. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
Suspended Registration
Stephanie G. Hernandez, of Chicago, was arrested at 2:46 a.m. June 13, near Voltz Road and Voltz Court and charged with improper lane usage, suspended registration and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. An officer saw a red Kia Forte swerving in and out of its lane and noticed the license plates were suspended. She was assigned a July 20 court date.
Baiel Zhunusbekov, of Des Plaines, was arrested at 9:34 p.m. June 15, near Willow and Old Willow roads and charged with suspended registration, expired driver’s license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. An officer stopped a black Toyota Avalon with suspended license plates and learned Zhunusbekov had an expired driver’s license. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
King D. Dortch Mason, of Evanston, was arrested at 8:26 p.m. June 17, near Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard and charged with suspended registration, expired registration and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. An officer stopped a red Toyota Corolla with suspended license plates. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
No Valid Driver’s License
Juan C. Pabello Vazquez, of Chicago, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. June 15, near Dundee and Portwine roads and charged with expired registration and no valid driver’s license. An officer stopped a white Nissan NV with expired and suspended license plates and learned Pabello Vazquez did not have a valid driver’s license. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
Uuganbayar Khurel, of Northbrook, was arrested at 7:26 p.m. June 15, near Dundee Road and Western Avenue and charged with suspended registration, no valid driver’s license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. An officer stopped a black Toyota Sienna with suspended license plates and learned Khurel did not have a valid driver’s license. He was assigned a July 20 court date.
Cancelled Driver’s License
Monserrath Vasquez Arceo, of Waukegan, was arrested at 10:55 p.m. June 15, near Willow and Landwehr roads and charged with illegally driving on a cancelled driver’s license. An officer stopped an orange Audi A3 with suspended license plates and learned Vasquez Arceo had a cancelled TV driver’s license. She was assigned a July 20 court date.
