NORTHBROOK, IL — Two former District 28 music students are the first recipients of the Joanie Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, established by the District 28 Music Parents Club.
Emma Noll and Eva Weil, both members of the Glenbrook North High School Class of 2026, received the $1,000 scholarship awards during the GBN Senior Awards ceremony in May.
Both students participated in music programs in District 28 and at Glenbrook North, and were recognized for demonstrating exemplary community spirit, according to the announcement.
The scholarship honors the memory of Joanie Gilbert, a longtime volunteer with the District 28 music program and the greater Northbrook community. Gilbert died in May 2026 after a brief illness.
For more than 20 years, Gilbert was a dedicated volunteer for the District 28 music program. Supporters described her as a selfless servant leader whose behind-the-scenes work and high standards helped lift the program to new heights.
More than a volunteer, Gilbert was remembered as a cherished friend and confidante whose support enriched the lives of students and music directors.
“Her legacy continues to sparkle in every note played,” the announcement said.
