NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
A resident in the 3600 block of Russett Lane reported July 20 that someone illegally accessed their retirement account and withdrew $89,000.
The company managing the account told the resident that the money had been deposited into a fraudulent bank account opened using the resident's name. The resident was working with the company to recover the funds.
A resident in the 1400 block of Sycamore Lane reported July 22 that someone claiming to represent a bank called and said the resident had been the victim of identity theft.
The caller instructed the resident to transfer money from the account to protect it. The resident transferred $18,000 to an account provided by the caller and realized it was a scam when the money was not returned.
A resident in the 4000 block of Picardy Drive reported July 20 that someone used the resident's personal information to obtain a $15,651.87 student loan in Kentucky.
The resident was provided information by the school and loan office about how to dispute the debt and clear their name.
A resident in the 1700 block of Lancaster Way reported July 20 that a $1,500 check mailed to a company in Connecticut had been stolen and altered to list a different payee.
The resident discovered the theft about a month after mailing the check. A postal inspector was notified.
In a separate report from the same block July 22, a resident received an alert from their bank about an attempt to cash a check for $3,600.
The resident said the check had not been issued and that the corresponding check remained in their checkbook. The resident did not know how someone had created a fraudulent check containing their account information.
A business owner in the 1900 block of Raymond Drive reported July 22 that a woman used a mobile-payment app to purchase $594 worth of Pokémon cards.
The first payment attempt was declined, but a second went through. After the customer left, another woman called the store and said her credit card information had been used without permission to make the purchase.
Northbrook officers responded July 19 to the area of Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard after a white Infiniti associated with a person wanted on two arrest warrants was seen nearby.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver swerved around officers and fled Northbrook at a high speed.
No arrest was reported.
Susan G. Fleischman, of Mundelein, was arrested at approximately 10:33 p.m. July 17 near Waukegan and Shermer roads after police received a report of a vehicle driving erratically and striking curbs.
An officer located the 2024 Kia Soul and reportedly saw it cross the centerline and enter lanes for oncoming traffic. Police said Fleischman showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests.
She was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use and was assigned an Aug. 20 court date.
Reinaldo J. Aguilera Carreno, of Wheeling, was arrested at approximately 8:20 a.m. July 18 following a non-injury crash in the 3800 block of Dundee Road.
Police said Aguilera Carreno was the at-fault driver, appeared intoxicated, failed field sobriety tests and had alcohol inside the vehicle.
He was charged with driving under the influence, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was assigned a Sept. 9 court date.
Sanchez Telus, of Waukegan, was arrested July 17 near Greenwood and Willow roads after an officer reportedly saw his vehicle fail to yield while turning left and nearly collide with another vehicle.
Police said Telus had a revoked driver's license. He was charged with driving with a revoked license and failing to yield while turning left and was assigned an Aug. 13 court date.
Yadira J. Martinez Ruiz, of Wheeling, was arrested July 19 near Willow Road and Interstate 294 after an officer stopped a vehicle with suspended license plates.
Police said Martinez Ruiz had a suspended driver's license. She was charged with driving with a suspended license.
The police report lists her court date as July 19.
Jesus Martinez Perez, of Cicero, was arrested July 18 near Dundee Road and Ash Lane after an officer stopped a vehicle with suspended plates.
Police said Martinez Perez did not have a valid driver's license and had an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.
He was charged with driving without a valid license and illegal transportation of alcohol and was assigned an Aug. 20 court date.
Rosanna Saulog, of Chicago, was arrested July 18 after police responded to a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard for a reported theft.
Loss-prevention employees said Saulog stole a pair of Vince Olla Runner sneakers valued at $69.97 and left in a white Audi.
Officers stopped the vehicle, recovered the shoes and identified Saulog as the suspected thief, according to police. She was charged with retail theft and assigned an Aug. 7 court date.
In a separate incident, loss-prevention employees at a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported July 22 that a man stole four bottles of Jo Malone cologne valued at $200 the previous day.
The man reportedly concealed the bottles and left without paying.
Residents in the 4500 block of Deer Trail Court reported July 21 that two people entered vehicles parked outside a home.
Loose change was stolen, and the suspects were seen leaving in a silver sport utility vehicle.
A person at a fitness facility in the 4100 block of Dundee Road reported July 22 that a workout bag had been stolen from a locker.
The person believed the locker had been secured before exercising. The missing bag contained identification cards, credit cards, clothing and a vehicle key.
Northbrook police and firefighters responded at approximately 6:13 a.m. July 17 to an assisted-living facility in the 4100 block of Lake Cook Road for an unresponsive resident.
The person showed no signs of life and died of natural causes, police said. Officers helped the facility contact a funeral home.
About 10 minutes later, emergency crews responded to a home in the 4300 block of Exeter Lane after a resident stopped breathing.
Crews attempted lifesaving measures, but the resident died of natural causes. The family's funeral home was contacted.
Police and firefighters also responded July 19 to an assisted-living facility in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard after a resident stopped breathing.
Emergency personnel took over CPR from staff members, but the resident died of natural causes. The facility contacted the person's funeral home.
