NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and arrests made by officers. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and may be dropped or reduced. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
A resident in the 3200 block of Sunset Trail reported July 31 that two people in a red sedan called him over after he parked in his driveway.
Police said the rear passenger began talking to the resident and handing him fake jewelry. During the interaction, the resident realized the person had stolen a Rolex valued at $100,000 from his wrist.
The resident tried to get the watch back, but the passenger scratched his arm before the pair fled in the sedan.
Zenshan Shahid, of Mount Prospect, was charged Aug. 1 with felony theft by deception after police said he stole approximately $10,000 from a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road.
Loss-prevention staff reported in April that Shahid, a former employee, had been issuing fraudulent car-wash refunds to himself over several months.
Police said officers went to Shahid's home Aug. 1 after he declined to turn himself in and took him into custody. He was assigned an Aug. 4 court date.
A person advertising an Omega watch for sale on Facebook Marketplace agreed to meet a buyer Aug. 3 inside a grocery store in the 1100 block of Church Street.
The buyer handed over an envelope supposedly containing $12,000 in $100 bills, took the watch and ran from the store, police said.
The seller then discovered the bills were counterfeit. Officers searched for the buyer but were unable to locate him.
A 2024 black Audi was reported stolen July 31 from a driveway in the 4300 block of Phyllis Drive.
Police said the vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside. A neighbor's surveillance system recorded a vehicle arriving around 4:42 a.m. and someone stealing the Audi.
Mohammad Aqib, of Northbrook, was charged Aug. 2 with illegal trespassing and obstructing a peace officer after employees at a restaurant in the 1300 block of Shermer Road asked him to leave.
Police said staff sought assistance because of Aqib's behavior and intoxication. Officers said he refused repeated requests to identify himself and leave the property.
He was assigned an Aug. 25 court date.
Thomas J. Moore Jr., of Chicago, was charged Aug. 2 with obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest following a house-party disturbance in the 1100 block of Voltz Road.
Police said officers returned to the residence about 40 minutes after initially responding and found several people fighting in the front yard.
Officers reported seeing Moore punching another person and said he refused commands to stop before resisting officers who intervened. The other person did not want to pursue a complaint against Moore, according to police.
Moore was assigned a Sept. 10 court date.
A person reported Aug. 3 that a wallet, identification cards, debit cards and keys were stolen from a locked fitness-center locker in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard.
That evening, employees at a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard reported three men concealed bottles of alcohol in backpacks and left without paying.
Two additional retail thefts were reported in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. In both cases, police said a man switched his old footwear for new merchandise before leaving without paying — a pair of Reef Element flip-flops valued at $29.97 in one case and New Balance 997R shoes valued at $79.97 in the other.
John R. Gloss, of Northbrook, was charged Aug. 4 with theft following a dispute with workers at his home in the 2000 block of Mallard Drive.
Police said the workers attempted to retrieve a pressure washer after being fired, but Gloss refused to return it and told officers he considered it compensation for work he believed had not been done correctly.
Gloss was assigned a Sept. 10 court date.
Gregory Gora was charged July 31 with misdemeanor speeding, suspended registration and operating an uninsured vehicle after police said an officer clocked his vehicle at 73 mph in a 45-mph zone near Waukegan and Dundee roads. His court date was set for Sept. 2.
Israel G. Maldonado, of Northfield, was charged July 31 with driving while his license was suspended and illegally driving while an electronic device was playing after police said an officer saw him watching a video while driving. He was assigned a Sept. 8 court date.
Geovanny Vazquez, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 1 with suspended registration, driving while his license was suspended and operating an uninsured vehicle. His court date was set for Sept. 8.
Jocelyn Enriquez Zuniga, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 2 with suspended registration and driving without a valid license. She was assigned a Sept. 8 court date.
Odonchimeg Lkhamjav, of Skokie, was charged Aug. 4 with suspended registration, illegal transportation of alcohol and operating an uninsured vehicle after police said an officer saw an open alcohol container on the center console. A Sept. 16 court date was assigned.
Sophia Capote Castro, of Prospect Heights, was charged Aug. 4 with driving while her license was suspended and having a defective headlight. She was assigned a Sept. 16 court date.
Helton B. Perdomo, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 6 with driving while his license was suspended following a traffic stop near Dundee and Landwehr roads. He was assigned a Sept. 8 court date.
Luis Gil Castro, of Chicago, was charged Aug. 6 with suspended registration, driving while his license was suspended and operating an uninsured vehicle. His court date was set for Sept. 23.
Justin S. Williams-Craig, of Martinsville, Indiana, was taken into custody Aug. 4 after officers discovered an active Kane County warrant while investigating an unrelated matter in the 2000 block of Mallard Drive.
Police said the warrant alleged a violation of pretrial release. Williams-Craig was transferred to the Cook County Jail pending transfer to Kane County.
A person reported Aug. 6 that someone used her Illinois Link card number to make a $583.43 purchase at a Northbrook grocery store.
The complainant still had possession of the card and did not know how the account number had been obtained. Police said they obtained surveillance video of a suspect.
A resident in the 900 block of Bermuda Dunes Place reported Aug. 1 that he found what appeared to be an airline phone number through Google while trying to confirm a reservation.
The person on the phone told him his reservation had failed and convinced him to provide credit-card information to purchase two additional tickets.
The resident later contacted the actual airline and learned his original reservation was valid. He then canceled his credit card.
