Turn home treasures into sales at the Northbrook Park District’s Autumn Flea Market

Are you dragging your feet to get that end-of-summer cleanup done?

There's no better incentive than registering as a vendor for the upcoming Autumn Flea Market held by the Northbrook Park District from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 outside the Northbrook Community Center, 3323 Walters Ave.

Recreation Manager Nancy Eschker said the outdoor flea market will offer an exciting variety of items, such as children's games, clothing, sports memorabilia, collectibles and miscellaneous household items.

"Two years ago, when we had our first flea market, I bought some plants that are still alive and well despite me not having a green thumb. It is great to be able to buy gently used items, especially with the cost of things these days," she said. "I will be doing some shopping again this year at the flea market!"

Resident Nancy Artz is among those who registered early after seeing the flea market advertised in the Park District's fall guide. She plans to sell household goods, sports equipment and small pieces of furniture, like a mid-century modern coat rack.

"I thought it would be a great opportunity for three hours to have a place to take some of the things I am looking to clean out of my house, and have a number of people come through and take a look," she said. "I have things that I can't use anymore but they are in great shape, so I would like to pass them along to somebody else. And this is a lot easier than doing a garage sale!"

Resident Courtney Fong, a collector, and his children Timmy and Addison will sell LEGO sets along with sports and trading cards.

"This is an opportunity to pass along some sets that we either previously built, or some sets that we never got around to building," he said. "I am really excited — it's a great opportunity to sell some things locally without the awkwardness of Facebook Marketplace."

The fee for vendors is $29 for residents $39 for residents, and includes an 8-foot table, two chairs and two marked parking spaces.
