NORTHBROOK, IL — Shermerfest returns to downtown Northbrook this month with classic cars, live music, children's activities and a few special additions as the village celebrates its 125th birthday.
The Northbrook Historical Society will host the 48th annual Shermerfest from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Village Green Park.
The free family festival, first held in 1979, celebrates Northbrook history and is the second-oldest outdoor event in the village, according to organizers.
This year's event will include tours of the Northbrook History Museum, including a walkthrough of a replica 1900s home, along with children's games, community organizations, food and refreshments, a blacksmith demonstration, mums for sale and live music.
Organizers also plan to bring back a Shermerfest bake sale for the first time in nearly a decade.
The "Classic Northbrook" Car and Truck Display will return for its 26th year, featuring vehicles from a range of eras throughout the park.
The Northbrook Classic CARavan is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Village on Techny Road before making its way through Northbrook and into Village Green Park.
Awards will be presented for favorite vehicles.
Shermerfest will also feature its Cow Pie Moo-lette raffle.
A large grid will be painted on the Village Green grass, with a cow provided by Wanger Farm in Glenview determining the winning square.
Tickets may be purchased through the Northbrook Historical Society website or during Shermerfest.
The Northbrook Rotary Club's rubber duck race is also scheduled for 3 p.m., while the Northbrook History Museum will remain open throughout the event.
Shermerfest is presented by the Northbrook Historical Society in partnership with the Village of Northbrook, Northbrook Park District and Sunset Foods.
