Northbrook, IL – September 2026 – The North Suburban YMCA is inviting preschool-aged children and their parents/caregivers to enjoy two engaging seasonal workshops designed to spark creativity, encourage learning through play, and create lasting memories together.
These interactive programs combine storytelling, imaginative play, and hands-on activities in a welcoming environment where young children can explore, create, and connect with others.
Mess Makers – Pumpkin Dough
Saturday, October 17 | 9:00–10:00 a.m.
Families can kick off the Halloween season with a fun and festive morning of creativity. Children will enjoy a Halloween-themed story before diving into hands-on sensory play with homemade, kid-friendly dough. Participants can squish, roll, and shape their creations into pumpkins, ghosts, monsters, and other imaginative designs while exploring colors, textures, and creative expression.
$35 for members or $45 for non-members.
Storytime Creations – Winter Craft
Saturday, December 12 | 9:00–10:00 a.m.
Celebrate the magic of winter with a cozy morning of storytelling and crafting. After listening to a winter-themed story, children will create a seasonal craft inspired by the book. The activity encourages imagination, fine motor skill development, and social interaction while providing a fun way to celebrate the season.
Both workshops are designed specifically for preschool-aged children and their parents or caregivers. All supplies are included, and no prior experience is necessary.
"Young children learn best when they are actively engaged and having fun," said Shannon Sliwinski, Youth Development Director at the North Suburban YMCA. "These workshops combine stories, creativity, and hands-on exploration in a way that helps build confidence, encourages imagination, and creates meaningful opportunities for families to learn and play together."
Families looking for even more ways to keep their preschoolers active, learning, and engaged can explore a wide variety of programs at the North Suburban YMCA.
