Driver Displays Gun During Road Rage Incident: Northbrook Police Blotter

Other reports include nearly $49,000 in fraudulent wire transfers, a stolen vehicle and a swatting call.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A Chicago man was charged after displaying a handgun to another driver during a road rage incident near Willow and Pfingsten roads, according to the Northbrook Police Department's latest report.

Other incidents included fraudulent wire transfers totaling $48,990, a stolen vehicle and a false emergency call reporting gunshots at a home.

The following information comes from Northbrook Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Jonathan A. Montoya, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct following a road rage incident reported at 5:09 p.m. Sept. 30, at Willow and Pfingsten roads. Montoya displayed a Glock pistol to another driver, authorities reported. His court date is Nov. 13.

BANK FRAUD

A business owner reported at 3:16 p.m. Sept. 29, in the 2700 block of Dundee Road that his accountant discovered four unauthorized withdrawals totaling $48,990. The money was transferred to various locations and accounts. His bank was working with the other banks to cancel the transfers.

SWATTING CALL

Officers responded to a home in the 800 block of Bittersweet at 4:51 p.m. Sept. 28, after an apparently computer-generated voice called to report gunshots coming from the residence. Officers confirmed everyone inside was unharmed and determined the report was a swatting call.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident in the 3100 block of Whisperwoods Court reported a stolen 2019 silver Infiniti at 7:42 p.m. Sept. 27. She said she parked the vehicle in her driveway and thought it was locked, but remembered leaving the ignition key inside. The vehicle was missing when she returned the following morning.

PICKPOCKETING

A woman reported at 11:28 a.m. Sept. 30, that two men blocked her near the exit of a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard. After asking to pass them and returning home, she discovered her wallet was missing from her purse.

The wallet contained a credit card, identification and $20. Her bank reported three unauthorized transactions for lottery tickets totaling $300 and canceled the affected account. An officer reviewed store surveillance footage and confirmed the men stole the wallet as she passed them.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Northbrook Park District staff reported at 7:26 a.m. Sept. 28, that someone entered an aquatic center in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue, which was closed for the season. The person threw a lifeguard stand into an empty pool, damaging its frame.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLES

Two homeowners in the 2700 block of Canterbury Drive reported at 7:44 a.m. Sept. 27, that someone rummaged through their vehicles overnight. Both vehicles had been left unlocked in their driveways. Nothing appeared to be missing.

IDENTITY THEFT

A Virginia resident reported at 5:42 p.m. Sept. 26, that someone used his personal information to attempt to buy a cellphone through a fraudulent account at a Verizon store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard. The resident discovered the fraud and contacted Verizon.

WARRANT SERVICE

Sarah E. Gamboa, of Rolling Meadows, was taken into custody at 6:06 p.m. Oct. 1, near Techny Road and Highland Avenue after an officer confirmed four outstanding arrest warrants.

The officer had received information that Gamboa's vehicle was in Northbrook and that she had been involved in several retail thefts throughout the Chicago area. The officer located her vehicle traveling east on Techny Road and stopped it after learning of the warrants. Authorities confirmed two Cook County warrants, one DuPage County warrant and one Kane County warrant. Gamboa was transported to Cook County Jail pending a court hearing.

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Kleyttin Castro Useche, of Chicago, was charged with driving on a suspended license following a traffic stop at 6:23 p.m. Sept. 27, at Waukegan and Dundee roads. An officer stopped her 2010 red Toyota Prius after observing suspended license plates and determined her driver's license was suspended. Her court date is Nov. 13.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Kevin G. Dugan, of Mount Prospect, was charged with suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following a traffic stop at 8:23 p.m. Sept. 27, at Sanders Road and Lindenwood Lane. An officer stopped his 2021 black Nissan Versa after observing suspended license plates. His court date is Oct. 27.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

K. A. Kwak, of Chicago, was charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop at 6:36 p.m. Oct. 1, at Willow Road and Sioux Trail. An officer observed Kwak holding a cellphone while driving a 2007 gray Honda Accord and determined during the stop that she did not have a valid driver's license. Her court date is Oct. 27.
