Adventure Campus serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade in school districts 27, 30 and 31. The program operates during the school year at Hickory Point, Shabonee and Wescott elementary schools in Northbrook, and Willowbrook and Winkelman elementary schools in Glenview.

Recreation Supervisor John Markel said the Park District is seeking people who enjoy working with children or want a rewarding role that provides hands-on experience.

Counselors lead educational and recreational activities, including homework, gym and outdoor play, arts and crafts, and board games.

"I really love this job," Meredith Lipsey, a senior at Glenbrook North High School, told the park district. "I have made so many different connections with my coworkers and all the different kids."

Noah Warner, also a Glenbrook North senior, said his own experience with after-school activities drew him to the job.

"As a kid, I went to after school activities, and I thought this job would be fun, because I remember after school being fun," he said. "The site directors are all chill, and they are pretty accommodating with any scheduling conflicts. I feel like I can talk to all of them."

Before-school care runs from 7 to 8:45 a.m. Afternoon care begins at 2:15, 2:30, 2:45 or 3:30 p.m., depending on the site, and continues until 6 p.m. Counselors can work morning shifts, afternoon shifts or both.

Employee perks include free family pool passes; access to drop-in programs such as public skating and open gym; memberships to Techny Prairie Activity Center, Northbrook Senior Center and the dog park; and complimentary theater tickets.

The Techny Prairie Activity Center membership includes access to the indoor walking track, fitness floor, group fitness classes and open gym.
