NORTHBROOK, IL — Residents will have another opportunity Tuesday to weigh in on the proposed redevelopment of Meadow Plaza as the Northbrook Plan Commission resumes its public hearing.
The special meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 20, at Techny Prairie Activity Center, 180 Anets Drive. The hearing began Oct. 6 and will continue with additional public testimony, cross-examination, and responses from the developer, according to the village.
Commissioners may begin deliberating if time permits. If the meeting does not conclude Tuesday, it could continue at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the same location. The village cautioned that additional time may instead be needed before scheduling another session.
Tuesday's hearing is expected to include testimony from people who signed up Oct. 6 but did not get to speak, along with others who have not yet provided public testimony.
Anyone who did not testify Oct. 6 and wishes to speak should complete a blue speaker slip upon arriving Tuesday and give it to village staff. Each public participant will have three minutes.
People representing groups whose members have not provided testimony may speak under the conditions previously established for the hearing, according to the village.
The meeting will also include cross-examination by participants who completed the required form before the start of public testimony.
After testimony and cross-examination conclude, the applicant may respond to questions and comments. The public hearing will then close.
Pulte Home Company LLC is seeking approval to redevelop the privately owned shopping center at the southeast corner of Cherry Lane and Meadow Road.
The proposal calls for 150 for-sale condominiums in three buildings, along with two commercial buildings totaling 11,000 square feet, according to the village's project materials. Application documents and Tuesday's meeting agenda are available on the village's Meadow Plaza development page.
As Patch previously reported, the proposal has drawn opposition over building height, density, traffic, flooding, school impacts and the amount of commercial space. An online petition opposing the development had more than 5,600 verified signatures as of Sept. 25.
The hearing follows the Village Board's August decision to send the application to the Plan Commission, reversing an earlier vote to conduct the public hearing itself.
The Plan Commission will make a recommendation. The Village Board retains final approval authority over the development.
The village will livestream the meeting through its:
