Residents who cannot attend Saturday have a year-round option at the same location. A medication disposal receptacle is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the police station lobby.

According to Northbrook's medication disposal guidance, accepted items for the permanent receptacle include prescription medications, controlled substances, vitamins and medicated ointments.

Residents are asked to keep unused or expired medications out of curbside recycling and trash bins and use a designated collection location instead.

Another ongoing drop-off option is the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District's O'Brien Water Reclamation Plant, 3500 Howard St., Skokie. Unwanted medications can be dropped off there daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the disposal information.

Additional guidance is available in Northfield Township's recycling brochure. Residents with questions about the Northbrook collection location can call the police department at 847-564-2060.
