Annual Seniorpalooza Health and Fun Fair on September 13 at the NSYMCA
Free community event includes vendors, health screenings, and a YMCA Education Series presentation offered by IBJI
Northbrook, IL: September 2022 – The North Suburban YMCA will host its 6th annual Seniorpalooza, a health and fun fair for older adults, on Wednesday, September 13 from 12 – 3pm. This free and open to the community event brings together a wide variety of local organizations offering wellness presentations, health screenings, giveaways, raffles prizes, flu clinic and demonstration classes.
The event offerings begin with a YMCA Education Series “Lunch and Learn” presented from 12-1pm by Illinois Bone & Joint Institute. Dr. Donna Ishak, PT, DPT will speak on “Balance and Fall Prevention.” Topics will include balance challenges and the medical conditions that may predispose a person to balance issues. Additionally, Dr. Ishak will discuss body systems involved in balance, environmental influences, how balance problems are diagnosed, how physical therapy can help and how physical activity can minimize falls.
In-person seating and lunch are limited, but a virtual option is available. The first 60 participants that register will receive a FREE lunch courtesy of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. Immediately following the presentation, the Health and Fun Fair will be open from 1-3pm in the NSYMCA gym. With over 40+ vendors, the fair will have local senior-focused organizations hosting information booths & free interactive health screenings. The fair will also have music, vendor shopping, and health demonstrations. Seniorpalooza now in its 6th year, typically brings in hundreds of community participants.
A flu shot clinic will be provided and administered by Ascension Saint Francis Hospital. Both the super flu shot and the regular shots will be available, but super flu shots are limited. Additionally, GoGreen Northbrook will be distributing reusable grocery bags provided by the Village of Northbrook to Seniorpalooza guests. This initiative aims to reduce waste and phase out single-use plastics. Starting January 1, 2024, customers will be charged 10 cents for each single-use paper or plastic bag at retail stores in Northbrook. The GoGreen Northbrook mission is to promote environmental sustainability through education, community programs, and collaboration with local governmental entities.
