Armed Robbery Reported In Downtown Northbrook

Police said two men robbed a business at gunpoint Monday afternoon before fleeing in a tan Jeep.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Police said they are investigating a report of an armed robbery in downtown Northbrook Monday. Two men armed with one or more guns stole merchandise and a handgun from a business at 1363 Shermer Road around 3:30 p.m. before fleeing south on Shermer Road in what authorities believe is a tan Jeep Compass, according to village officials.

Police said both suspects were described as in their early 20s and black. One man was described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, wearing dark clothes and bright orange shoes. The other man was said to be 6 feet tall and wore a green construction vest. Village officials released images from security cameras showing the suspects.

There were no injuries reported and no gunshots fired, according to a statement from the village, which said the incident did "not appear to be a random act."

Northbrook police notified local agencies of the incident, and anyone with information about it was asked to contact the department at 847-564-2060.

Monday's reported armed robbery took place in the same mixed-use building where attorney Jigar Patel was murdered in December 2016. Police believe his killer fled to the Philippines, where brother-in-law is a mayor.
