NORTHBROOK, IL - A homeowner on Basswood Drive in Northbrook was the victim of a residential burglary earlier this month when he was approached on his back pation by a man who claimed he was there to “varnish the fence and replace the bushes,” according to police.
A neighbor of the victim in the 300 block of Basswood told police he saw a black four door sedan in the driveway with two male occupants and the vehicle’s trunk open just before 4 p.m. on Nov. 5.
The man who approached the homeowner attempted to lead the victim away from the patio to look at something along the side of the residence, according to a police report. As the neighbor approached, a third man came from around the house entered the vehicle and the vehicle drove away.
