Battery Tour: Wheeling Man Charged in 4 Different Towns

Michael Cata already had four battery charges in three cities in two days before he added the fourth city last week.

WHEELING, IL - If you live and work in the same town, it’s very possible you haven’t ventured into four different municipalities over the last month-and-a-half.

But one Wheeling man has, and picked up a battery charge in every one of them.

Michael Cata, 29 is currently being held in the Cook County Jail after a Dec. 1 battery charge in Skokie that was his fifth since Oct. 26, just six weeks prior.

Cata has been charged with felony battery in Glenview, Wheeling and Chicago, and misdemeanor battery in Skokie during that span, the Chicago Tribune reports.

When the strong of charges began, Cata had actually picked up four felony batteries in three municipalities in two days.

From the Tribune:

“Cata’s troubles started with his arrest Oct. 26 by Wheeling police on a charge of criminal damage to property, according to prosecutors. They said he tried to fight with an arresting officer, and then sustained minor injuries in a subsequent struggle.

He was taken to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, where, according to the state’s attorney’s office, he spit on a nurse.

That resulted in another aggravated battery charge…

The next day, another struggle with Wheeling police ensued, in which a police camera was damaged, according to the state’s attorney’s office. Cata was charged a second time with aggravated battery to a peace officer, as well as criminal damage to government property, and moved to Cook County Jail.

While incarcerated Oct. 27, according to the state’s attorney’s office, he struck a jailer, and was charged a third time with aggravated battery to a peace officer.”

While facing the hospital charge at the Skokie Courthouse on Dec. 1, he allegedly struck a fellow detainee in lockup to be charged with the crime in the fourth different municipality.
