Bike Left Unlocked at School Stolen Overnight: Cops

A man faces retail theft charges after allegedly stealing a bottle of vodka.

The following information is from the Northbrook Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

THEFT LOST/MISLAID PROPERTY

A victim believes her wallet may have fallen onto the ground when she exited her vehicle. Inside her wallet was an ATM/Debit card which the victim later discovered was used several times to make unauthorized online purchases. The wallet also contained her driver’s license and several additional credit cards.

RETAIL THEFT

Oksana Vekselman, 49, Buffalo Grove was charged with retail theft at 1:09 p.m. on October 31 in the 800 block of Willow Road. The store security observed the defendant placing merchandise into her purse rather than her shopping cart. The defendant then paid for some merchandise at the checkout but not the $206 in merchandise she had placed into the purse.

SUSPENDED DRIVER’S LICENSE

Toriano A. Crayton, 39, Evanston was stopped in the 2500 block of Dundee Road at 8:28 a.m. on November 2 and cited with driving while license suspended. Officers stopped the defendant’s vehicle when they observed it commit a traffic violation.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A victim reported that offenders entered her unlocked 2006 Volvo and removed a small wallet containing $15 cash and miscellaneous items from the glove box sometime before 2:25 p.m. on November 2.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

A victim reported that offenders entered his unlocked 2013 Hyundia he had parked on his driveway sometime between 6 p.m. on November 1 and 9 a.m. on November 2. The victim found the contents of his glove box strewn about the vehicle and his gym bag was located on the street.

REVOKED DRIVER’S LICENSE

Enzor Barbosa, 23, North Chicago was stopped at Dundee Road and Skokie Highway at 10:05 p.m. on November 2 and cited for driving while license revoked and no headlights. Officers stopped the defendant’s vehicle after they observed it commit a traffic violation.

THEFT

A complainant in the 1800 block of Western Ave. reported that her son’s unlocked 24” blue and black Performance brand bicycle along with his yellow and black helmet were stolen during the overnight hours from November 2-3. The value of the bicycle is $269. The bicycle had been left unlocked in a bicycle rack at the school.

RETAIL THEFT

Thomas J. Kloepfer, 44, 1970 Cherry was charged with retail theft at 6 p.m. on November 4 in the 1100 block of Church Street. The complainant, a store employee, reported he observed the defendant conceal a bottle of vodka and a can of beer in his clothing. The defendant pasted the last point of purchase and walked into the parking lot. The defendant dropped the merchandise once he realized that store employees were following him. Officers apprehended the defendant a block away from the store. The defendant was issued a local ordinance citation and released at the scene.

WARRANT ARREST

James J. Barcham, 42, Chicago was arrested on a Cook County warrant for a DUI at 7:20 p.m. on November 4 on Dundee Road. Officers observed the defendant’s vehicle driving with expired Illinois license plates.
