
One of the most beloved attractions at the Art Institute of Chicago is Grant Wood’s <i>American Gothic</i> painted in 1930. Acquired by the museum in the same year, the painting was an immediate hit. With Wood’s success came fame, but there were unwarranted attacks that took a tremendous toll on his career.
