Car Stolen, 7 Others Burglarized On Same Street: Northbrook PD Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

ROAD RAGE

Scott J. Johnson, of Wilmette, is accused of disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 12:02 a.m. May 11, following a road rage incident at Lake Cook and Lee roads. A complainant told police he had been followed by someone driving a 2022 white Chrysler Pacifica, later identified as Johnson, who reportedly tried blocking him from any lane changes continuously. Johnson is then accused of driving very closely behind the complainant and following him into a parking lot. When the complainant stopped, Johnson, threatened them with violence. A court date of May 29 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Tristen J. Krasniuk, of Chicago, is accused of speeding (73 mph in a 45 mph zone), driving under the influence, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:27 p.m. May 11, at Willow and Waukegan roads. Police found several bottles of beer scattered throughout the interior of the car. A court date of June 25 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

Staff at the Northbrook Park District reported at 9:17 a.m. May 10, someone had put graffiti throughout several areas of their property using blue and green paint markers in the 1700 block of Techny Road.

RETAIL THEFT

• The loss prevention staff at a hardware store in the 1000 block of Willow Road called police at 12:32 p.m. May 10, to report someone came into the store about an hour earlier, and loaded a shopping cart with over $1,300 worth of products. The person walked out of the store without paying for any of the items. The staff learned about this crime after reviewing their surveillance footage and found out the same person had stolen items from their store in Arlington Heights.
• The staff at a garden center in the 800 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 2:39 p.m. May 12, a male had picked up a plant and walked toward his vehicle. The staff noticed he put the plant inside the vehicle, but never came back to pay for it. The man drove away northbound on Skokie Boulevard.

IDENTITY THEFT

• A Dell Road resident reported at 4:11 p.m. May 10, someone had used her name and social security number to open a credit card, but with a different address than where she lived. After checking her credit report, she noticed someone also tried to obtain a car loan using her name but was denied.
• A Ridge Road resident called police at 12:22 p.m. May 14, to report someone had fraudulently used his name to open a cell phone account. The complainant noticed the fraudulent account when he checked his credit and noticed it was in collections for $5,000 of unpaid cell phone bills.

STOLEN AUTO

A resident in the 1100 block of Butternut Lane reported at 4:13 a.m. May 11, someone had stolen her 2024 black Volkswagen from the driveway. She said the vehicle was left unlocked with the key fob in the cupholder. After reviewing her surveillance footage, she noticed the vehicle was stolen at around 1:40 a.m.

BURGLARY TO AUTOS

After speaking with the Butternut Lane resident (see incident above) regarding their stolen car, police said seven other residents called on May 11 from the same street, indicating that their vehicles were rummaged through, and various items were taken from inside them. In all the cases, the vehicles were parked unlocked in the driveways.

• A citizen reported at 7:50 p.m. May 13, he had left his room at a care facility in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard to use the hallway bathroom. When he returned to his room, he noticed a box was missing from on top of his bed. The room was left unlocked while he was gone. The complainant said the box contained personal items and credit cards.
• A citizen reported at 5:47 p.m. May 14, when she had gone to get lunch at a grocery store in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard and later noticed her cell phone was missing from her purse. She utilized the app to find her phone and noticed it was in Chicago. The complainant never saw anyone steal her phone while at the store.
