Catch A Fish At Annual Derby On May 20 In Northbrook

The free Kids' Fishing Derby returns to Lake Shermerville inside Wood Oaks Green Park.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Grab your fishing rod and head on over to Lake Shermerville on May 20. The annual free Kids' Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Northbrook Park District, returns from 10 a.m. to noon at Wood Oaks Green Park, 1150 Sanders Road.

Organizers said additional poles will be available for event use on a first come, first served basis and free bait will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish, smallest fish, and most fish caught in several age ranges.

Registration for the event will be available on-site only. Fishing licenses are not needed for participants under 16 years old. Goody bags including free coupons for Lou Malnati’s and Culver’s Northbrook will be provided to the first 150 registered children, GoGoSqueez is providing a free snack and a free prize drawing will be held.

"Kids should look forward to disconnecting from screens and technology, spending time outdoors, fishing with friends and family, enjoying shaved ice from Kona Ice, and the chance to win some prizes," Recreation Supervisor Mary Mucci said.

Volunteers from the Isaak Walton League will be on hand to assist participants at the event.
