Container of Cocaine Found During Traffic Stop: Cops

COCAINE POSSESSION

Gregory P. Pluta, 24, of the 4400 block of Amelia Avenue, Lyons, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after a small container of cocaine was found in his car during an April 11 traffic stop, according to police reports.

Police pulled up on Pluta at about 11:49 p.m. after seeing his vehicle stopped in the roadway on Lee Road, near Dundee Road. When the driver rolled down his car window to speak with officers, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected, the report stated. Pluta admitted he had pot in the car, and he was arrested, the report added.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a small container with a white, powdery substance that field tested as cocaine.

DUI

Randall M. Kalish, 29, of the 1900 block of North California Avenue, Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired license and improper lane use during an April 12 traffic stop.

Police pulled over Kalish at about 8:27 p.m. for a traffic violation near Willow and Waukegan roads. During the stop, officers observed that Kalish appeared to be under the influence.

He was held on $1,000 bail, and his court date is May 12.

DUI

Kent D. Middleton, 59, of the 4000 block of Noble Court, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, speeding and improper lane use after an April 13 traffic stop.

Police pulled over Middleton at about 2:25 a.m. for several traffic violations near Dundee Road and Ash Lane. During the stop, officers determined that Middleton appeared to be under the influence.

He was held on $1,000 bail, and his court date is May 17.

RETAIL THEFT

Ana C. Alvarez, 23, was cited for retail theft after being accused of trying to shoplift a $199 sweater jacket April 13 from Saks Off 5th.
