Coventant Living of Northbrook Residents Provide Student Grants

Students Receive Grants to Help with Tuition

Seven college-bound students employed at Covenant Living of Northbrook recently received $1,500 Grants-in-Aid from the Holly Fair committee at Covenant Living.
Seven college-bound students employed at Covenant Living of Northbrook recently received $1,500 Grants-in-Aid from the Holly Fair committee at Covenant Living.

Northbrook, Ill.: A group of seven college-bound students currently employed at Covenant Living of Northbrook as wait staff in dining services were recently awarded a total of $10,500 in Grants-in-Aid to help pay for their educations. The grants were awarded from the 2019 Holly Fair committee—the annual fundraiser chaired this year by Joan Mueller, which raises money for aid to students pursuing higher education, community donations and other programming within Covenant Living.

Those who each received a $1,500 grant include: Dustin Birnbaum, attending Tulane University - New Orleans; Finnegan Garrity, attending Oakton Community College; Michael Pressler, attending the University of Iowa; Aleena Shibu, attending Lake Forest College; David Zelkowitz, attending the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana; Steven Zelkowitz, attending Loyola University – Chicago; and Mathew Reji, attending Oakton Community College.

Recipients of the award must have been employed at Covenant Living for at least six months, be enrolled in a college or technical school and have completed a grant application highlighting their hopes and their future career goals.

Every year the Holly Fair committee, Covenant Living administration, and several anonymous residents give money to help with tuition for each eligible graduating senior wait staff server who has applied for and been accepted to college. Holly Fair’s Treasurer, Bob Martin, has overseen an upward growth of the Holly Fair Grants-in-Aid Fund from anonymous residents, along with overseeing the Holly Fair Grants-in-Aid contribution and the inclusion of $500 for each graduating senior from Covenant Living.
