NORTHBROOK, IL — Kickball, mixed with adult beverages, is a "fun and active time" for grown-ups, according to the Northbrook Park District. The Cup-In-Hand Kickball Tournament returns Saturday, July 20, at Techny Prairie Park and Fields, 1750 Techny Road.

Team sign-ups for the tournament, which begins at 11 a.m., run through next Monday. Captains can register their teams online or in person at any park district registration facility. Registration is $315 per team.

"This tournament is fun to host because it brings out the kid in everyone, playing with friends and having a few beverages at our very own softball field," said Dan Catron, NPD recreation supervisor. "It will remind the adults of simpler times, like when they used to play kickball as children."

The tournament is a co-ed event where at least a third of each team's roster must be women. Officials said rosters also must have between 6 and 12 players.

Beer and seltzer will be available at the event. No outside beverages will be allowed. All players must be ages 21 and up. Team captains will be given tickets that players can redeem for drinks (maximum two drinks per game). When teams aren't on the field, players have the option to purchase additional drinks. Food will also be available for purchase on site through Landmark Inn Bar and Grille.
