Despondent Over Rose, Kipnis Remains Bullish

Cleveland Indian second baseman still hopeful for prospects of hometown team.

Chicago sports fans have been in a funk since Saturday, when Derrick Rose tore his ACL in the waning moments of the Bulls defeat of Philadelphia in game one of the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis, who says Rose is one of his favorite athletes, was as disappointed as anyone when he saw the Bulls star writhing in pain.

“It hurts to see not only as a fan but also as an athlete in another sport,” the Northbrook native told Patch. “I feel sorry for him because I know what he wants and the type of competitor he is and the games he is looking forward to."

Before the Bulls fell last night in game two of the playoffs, Kipnis maintained optimism the Bulls could still have a deep run in the post season.

“The rest of the team is going to take care of business,” Kipnis predicted.”They had experienced it the entire system where they didn’t have to play with him and I definitely think they have a team where they are going to be winning some games here. I don’t think the season is over by any means.”
