Developer, Commission Can't Agree on Plan for Voltz/Waukegan

Edward R. James Companies reduces size of project by one home, commissioners concerns remain.

Northbrook village officials are at a standstill with a developer over a proposal to build dozens of homes on the property at the northeast corner of Voltz and Waukegan.

CEO Jerry James of Edward R. James Companies was told nearly a year ago he had to reduce the size of his unit development proposal, which at the time consisted of 38 homes. Last week, the Northbrook Star reports, James presented a plan which included 37 homes.

Still too many, the village contends.

“This development is in some ways better than some developments we’ve approved in other areas of the village, but they’re in other areas of the village,” commissioner Steve Elisco said.

Even if the commission does not recommend James plan, which includes 2.3 acres for internal roadways, he will have a chance to present it to the Village Board.

“I won’t succeed with less than what we have tonight (37),” James said May 5. “You can’t ask me to do it without a full palette. I know where we are in this equation.”
