District 30 Collects Over 100 Pumpkins For Composting
The district's Environmental Awareness Committee hosted its third annual pumpkin recycling and composting event Monday.
From District 30: In an effort to continue to help reduce landfill waste, District 30’s Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) hosted the third annual pumpkin recycling/compost event on November 4.
When the activity ended, the recycling container was overflowing, and over 100 pumpkins were collected. All pumpkins were picked up by Waste Management @wastemanagement, transported to its compost facility, and turned into dirt and bags of that dirt are sold at local stores, according to District 30's Waste Management representative Laura Pall.

Thank you to everyone who donated their pumpkins and to EAC representatives who helped residents throughout the morning: Tracey Becker, Catherine Caporusso Hartman, Anjali Nanjia, and Theresa Blackbourn, secretary to Assistant Superintendent and EAC Chair, Dr. Melissa Hirsch.
